Hello everyone! A few of my friends at work told me about this website where you can post updates and ultrasound pics to keep family and friends current on how your pregnancy is going. We are excited that all of you will be able to share this experience with us. I have been meaning to make this page for quite a while now, but just hadn't taken the time to sit down and do it. I am 13 weeks now, but will start from the begining.
Justin and I had been talking about starting a family but decided to wait until after our Denver trip in December (I wanted to be able to ski!). Then on January 31, I had a feeling that something was a little different. I was a little skeptical that I was pregnant until I took the test (actually, I took two of them!). I think my jaw hit the floor. I told Justin when he got home from work that night and he was very excited!
We made an appointment with the doctor the next day, and our pregnancy was confirmed! We were to come back in two weeks for our first ultrasound. We told our parents and a few close friends, but wanted to wait until after the ultrasound, to make sure everything was okay, before telling everyone else.
On February 15, we had our first ultrasound. It kind of just looked like a blob with a heartbeat, but a heartbeat nonetheless. The heart rate was 103, which the doctor said was perfect for six weeks gestation. I think we both started to tear up a bit. Even though there wasn't much to look at, it was still amazing!

I thought I was going to be one of the lucky ones who didn't get "morning sickness" because other than having a cold during week six (which is rough because you can't take any cold medicines), I had been feeling great. Then day one of week seven hit, and the "all day sickness" began. I found that as long as I didn't get too hungry I was okay. But sometimes nothing seemed to do the trick. I'll spare you the details. My sense of smell, which seems to be hightened and extra sensitive, doesn't help much either. The exhaustion hit about the same time as the nausea. I pretty much didn't do anything but work and lay around the house. Justin was very helpful and did all the grocery shopping, cooking, and dishes. (I wonder how long I can make this part last!)
Within the next couple of weeks, I started having some problems and had to go back to the doctor. On March 3, I had another ultrasound. I was nine weeks by then. The doctor said that the baby looked great and she wasn't sure why I was having issues. The baby had definately grown. Instead of being one blob with a heartbeat, it was now three blobs with a heartbeat (head, body, and feet, I think). The heart rate was 174, which is perfect for nine weeks gestation. The doctor said that unless my problems got worse just to come back in four weeks for a check up. Luckily, after the next couple of weeks, the problem went away, and will hopefully not come back!

Our next appointment was on March 31. We weren't scheduled for an ultrasound, but since the doctor wasn't able to find the heart tones with a doppler, we got to "sneak a peak" anyway. What a difference four weeks can make!!! No longer a blob, our little one actually looked like a baby! You could clearly see the head, body, all four limbs, and a perfect veiw of the spine. The heart rate was 157. The baby was sucking on its thumb and then started hitting itself in the head as if saying, "Gee, I wish these people would leave me alone in here!" It was hard to get good pictures at first between the baby moving all around and me laughing at it! Of course I drilled the ultrasound tech with questions about the heart, gut, back, etc., which were all answered with, "It's still a little too early to tell." She did, however, get a good look between the legs. Fifteen to sixteen weeks is usually when the external genitalia is completely formed, so thirteen is still a little early. We do know what we think it "might" be, but you'll have to wait until we know for sure! Sorry! It is amazing though to see the baby moving all around because I can't feel a thing! I haven't even gained any weight, which is suprising to me because I have been eating ALOT! Justin keeps asking me when I'm going to get a belly! I am now oficially in my second trimester, and should start gaining about a pound a week. The exhaustion and puking should go away too, but I'm not holding my breath!!
