31 Month Update

We have been having so much fun! Several weekends ago we went to the Gulf Shores Zoo. It was the perfect size for Tristan's age, and the weather was great. Tristan's girlfriend, Taylor, and her mom came with us, and the kids had a great time looking at all of the animals. We ate at Lambert's on the way back for some yummy lunch and Tristan liked when they would throw the rolls. We have gone to the fountain at the Eastern Shore Center a few times and Tristan loves playing in the water. The best time to go is first thing in the morning before it gets too hot or crowded. One day after school, Tristan, Anna Kate, and I went for a walk at Gator Alley in Daphne. Tristan did great walking the whole way since Anna Kate was in the stroller. He had a good time looking for alligators and we saw three of them. He would wave and say "Hi" to everybody that we passed and if they didn't wave back he would say (very loudly) that they needed to go to time out. I just hoped that they weren't listening to closely! We all went to an Easter egg hunt at a friend of mine's house. Tristan had a lot of fun playing and looking for eggs. He was very proud of all the eggs he found and was thrilled that they all had candy in them. He was a little disappointed when we didn't let him eat it all at one time though.
We have been back to the doctor twice in the last month. Once was to have his ears rechecked and the infection was all gone. The other time was because one morning he woke up with hives all over his back and abdomen. The doctor said that it was an allergic reaction, most likely to something that he ate. He hadn't had anything new or unusual, so we have no idea what it was. But after a few days on Claritin his hives were all gone. He has had a few goose eggs on his head recently. The first time, he was running out of his room and tripped over his feet and fell and hit his head on the corner of his door. I'm glad that it was the door because it moved when he hit it and if it had been the wall or door frame it would have been a lot worse. He was a good sport about it though and let us put an ice pack on it. The next time was because he was jumping around in the baby bed (which he knows he is not supposed to do) and hit his head on the side. So now he has two bruises on his forehead. I told him he was going to have to wear a bicycle helmet if he didn't stop hitting his head!
Tristan has been such a great big brother. He has helped me give Anna Kate a bath a few times and he makes sure that she has her papi (pacifier), although she doesn't want it nearly as much as he tries to give it to her. He likes to talk to her and he especially loves it when she talks back or smiles at him. I had a great Mother's Day. Justin and Tristan made me breakfast in bed. Then we had lunch with Justin's family. Justin's uncle cooked prime rib and all the kids served the moms lunch. It was delicious and very sweet of them. Justin made me a memory box to put special things of the kids in. He put a lot of work in it and did a great job. Anna Kate even let me get five hours of sleep in a row that night! I hope everyone else had a great Mother's Day too!

30 Month Update

Tristan would like to announce the arrival of his baby sister, Anna Kate! She was born on March 28, weighing 7 pounds and 1 ounce. Tristan has been doing a great job adjusting to his new role of big brother. He always asks what Anna Kate is doing and he likes to look at her when she is sleeping. He especially likes it when she has the hiccups and he thinks it is hilarious when she burps or has gas. He always tells her "Bless you Anna Kate" when she sneezes and he likes it when I say "Thank you Tristan" as if it were her saying it. He has been a little extra clingy lately, especially to Justin. It hurts my feelings a little bit that he doesn't want me as much, but it does make things a little easier on me. Before Anna Kate was born, we tried to do as much stuff with Tristan as we could, even if it was just spending an extra few minutes reading books at night. My sister and her daughter, Zooey, came and stayed at our house with Tristan while Justin and I were at the hospital. He loved having her around and doing silly things to entertain her. Hopefully he will be the same way with Anna Kate once she is big enough to smile back at him!
About a week and a half before Anna Kate was born, Tristan got sick. He had a fever for four days, a bad cold, and a double ear infection. I felt so bad for him, but he was a little trooper. He would wake up at night with terrible coughing fits, and usually we would end up on the couch so I could hold him upright so he could breath a little better. He did great taking his medicine, but he had no desire whatsoever to eat. And of course I caught his cold. Luckily I didn't have it nearly as bad and we were both feeling much better by the time Anna Kate arrived. But unfortunately, when we went back to have his ears rechecked, he still had a double infection. He had also woken up from his nap that day with a fever and a pink eye. The doctor said that the fever could be from the ear infection or maybe from another cold virus, but that it looked like he did have pink eye. The antibiotic that she gave him this time tastes awful and it is torture to get him to take it. Giving him eye drops three times a day wasn't exactly any fun either. By the time he woke up the next morning, he was feeling better and his eye had cleared up, so we think maybe it wasn't pink eye, but we did the eye drops anyway just in case. Anna Kate and I left and went to my Dad's to escape the germs because we definitely didn't want her catching anything. I felt awful about leaving my sick baby, but I knew it was the best thing to do. Justin said that Tristan acted like he was never sick and even ate great, which means he must have felt better. Hopefully when we go back in a few days to have his ears checked again they will be all better!
Tristan has loved getting to go outside and play and the weather has been beautiful. I picked him up from school the other day and we went to the park to have some Mommy and Tristan time and it was great. It was a little weird for me at first because I was used to telling him I couldn't do certain things because Anna Kate was in my tummy. The fountain should be opening soon and I'm sure he will have a blast there too. Tristan's new thing is wiping off our kisses and saying "Yucky!" He even does it when you blow him a kiss. Every now and then, you can sneak one on him when he isn't paying attention. I recently got an iphone and it is quite scary how well Tristan can navigate it. He knows how to unlock it and find all of his games. He will get it and go sit on his couch to play it. I want to get a pic of him because its cute, but I can't because he has my phone. Now I know why Justin wanted me to get one-so Tristan would play mine and he could have his back. He also likes to take pictures with it, so every now and then I have to go through and delete tons of pics of the floor or his feet, or wherever the camera is aimed. Tristan also loves playing with all of his little cars and trucks. He likes to drive them all over the house and play with them in the tub. Its nice because because it keeps him occupied for quite a while, but it sure hurts when you step on one!
